The Church of the Resurrection is exploding with young families, and we have a ton of great opportunities for the children and youth in our parish!  We want to help you find ways your children can get involved, grow in their faith, and make lasting friendships.  There are also lots of great activities offered seasonally, and this list is always growing!

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Religious Education & Sacramental Preparation
Follow the link above to learn more about ways your children can participate in Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation at the Church of the Resurrection.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Parish children, ages 4 and 5, can participate in this weekly Montessori-style class to learn and discover more about the Good Shepherd who loves us.  Children become familiar with the mystery of the Kingdom of God as told by Jesus in parables, and they learn the symbols, gestures, and language of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Baptism through various stories and hands-on activities.  Follow the link above to learn more about our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program and how to get your children involved.

Resurrection School | Little Shamrocks Preschool & Childcare
Resurrection School partners with families to provide a nurturing Catholic environment focused on academic excellence, where students grow into disciples who know, love and serve our Lord Jesus Christ.  Follow the links above to learn more about our school.

FELLOWSHIP & FORMATION OPPORTUNITIES

Middle School & High School Youth Ministry
Do you have Middle or High School students?  The Church of the Resurrection partners with several neighboring parishes to offer a our children a vibrant Youth Ministry experience.  Follow the link above to learn more and get involved with Youth Ministry at the Church of the Resurrection.

Troops of Saint George
The Troops of Saint George is a group for boys in the parish ages 6 and older.  The Troops of Saint George apostolate aims to use the outdoors as our canvas and the Sacraments as our path to light the way for the formation of Holy Catholic men and boys. Whether called to the vocation of the Priesthood, the religious life, or that of Holy fatherhood, our fathers and sons will take a prayerful pilgrimage together to fulfill Christ’s desire for them to grow in virtue and in their Holy Catholic faith as they journey toward heaven.  Learn more about the apostolate here.

Our Troops of Saint George Activities include camping, hiking, knife safety, fire starting, archery, canoeing, wayfinding, and building.   We typically meet on the second Saturday/weekend of the month.  We host a camping weekend with Mass, and it is very popular among our fathers and sons.  The cost to join is approximately $40 per person, and financial assistance is available for those who may need it.  If you have questions or wish to join, please contact Alex Dion at [email protected]

Little Flowers Girls' Club
Little Flowers Girls' Club is a Catholic club for girls ages 5 to 10.  Based on the 1906 Catholic classic, "The Catholic Girls' Guide" by Fr. F.X. Lasance, and the spirituality of St. Therese, the Little Flower of Lisieux, this beautiful, authentically Catholic program has delighted and instilled in our girls a love of our Catholic faith.  Little Flowers teaches virtues through scripture, Saints' biographies and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  Badges for the virtues are earned by studying the Saint associated with the virtue, memorizing relevant scripture verses, and studying the Catechism.

Our group typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 4:30pm-5:30pm. The cost is $55 for new members and $45 for returning members.  Registration deadlines are around September 1st each year.  For more information or to register, please send a message to Barbara Dion at [email protected]

St. Zita's Guild
St. Zita's Guild is a Catholic club for girls ages 11 and 12.  The mission of St Zita's Guild is to grow in understanding the Corporal Works of Mercy by learning some of the lost trades of homemaking, like sewing, proper food preparation, and more!  The girls also participate in service projects, like assembling simple care baskets for our sick or homebound parishioners.  The girls and their mothers deliver these baskets to our parishioners.  For more information or to register, please send a message to Barbara Dion at [email protected]

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES

Young Families & Couples Group  |  Resurrection Moms Group
The Young Families & Couples Group at the Church of the Resurrection host many events throughout the year for families with children newborn to 8th grade.  Family Adoration, Christmas caroling, movie nights, play dates at the park, and craft nights are just some of the great opportunities to enjoy.  The Resurrection Moms Group hosts "Play & Pray" that meets at the parish, and the Moms Group is very active supporting one another through meal trains and prayer requests on Facebook.  They even have a Facebook swap group to exchange clothes and toys.  Follow the links above to learn more.

Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School, or VBS, is a 1-week, fun-filled program we offer during the summer for children entering Kindergarten through 5th Grade.  VBS is an opportunity for children and families to connect with Jesus and His Church in an energetic environment.  Our Catholic Faith is presented on a level perfect for engaging young hearts.  Vacation Bible School is also an outreach where children who don’t normally attend church can hear of Jesus and the gospel. Our Vacation Bible School is always 100% Catholic.  We learn about Jesus and how to follow Him as a Catholic Christian.  Our VBS is from the Cat.Chat program (see https://catchat.ca for more information).  There is a minimal cost, but there are scholarships available.  Keep an eye out for announcements each Spring about registering for VBS.

Daddy-Daughter Dance
The Church of the Resurrection invites fathers (and grandfathers and godfathers, etc.) and their daughters to attend our annual Daddy-Daughter dance.  Each year, we welcome McCartney Irish Dance Company, who performs and leads communal dance.  Fathers and daughters “dress up” (semi-formal or “Sunday best”) for the evening, and enjoy dinner, desserts, and even take formal photos to remember the night.  There is a minimal cost to attend.  It is a highly anticipated event among our young girls in the parish!

OTHER ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR*

Burying the Alleluia
Burying the Alleluia is an old tradition to say 'goodbye' to Alleluia during Lent.  You can read a bit about this tradition at the New Liturgical Movement.  This is a great opportunity to prepare for Ash Wednesday and your family's annual Lenten journey.  Look for more information as Lent approaches.

*Activities occur once a year/periodically
